Mrs P approached us for help with refurbishing her bathroom and installing an easy access step in shower to replace her existing bath.
We’re finding this kind of job is becoming more and more common when people, like Mrs P, start to experience a decline in mobility. As mobility changes the ability to negotiate the high step of a bathtub often becomes more difficult. In fact, several of our customers have sought out this type of adaptation as a result of injuries arising from trips and falls when getting in and out of the bath.
A home visit to assess the best solution
Before providing a quote, our Advisor visited Mrs P’s home and assessed the bathroom for adaptation.
The room had a bathtub running down one wall in an alcove (i.e. with a wall at each end). This configuration lent itself well to removing the bath and replacing it with a walk-in shower. As was the case in this job, some of our shower trays are suitable for trimming down to suit the exact length of the bathtub being removed. This meant the shower we installed would fit snugly on the old bath footprint.
Mrs P was satisfied with our quote for new bathroom fittings and proposed works and proceeded to place an order.
Bath out and shower in
The job included refurbishing the whole bathroom, so work started with removing existing fittings. Next we installed the new step in shower tray, toilet and basin. Then we laid anti-slip flooring and added marble effect waterproof cladding to the walls.
Grab rails were added to the shower to aid with getting in and out. A shower basket was also added for convenience and a shower seat provided a spot to relax whilst in the shower area.
Because of the size of the job, the work was extensive and took 2 weeks to complete (10 working days).
Mrs P is now finding her new shower much easier to access and enjoy compared to her old bathtub.
